Where we began
Joe Scanlon, a graduate of Salesianum high school and an accomplished mechanic, opened the doors to Harvey Road Automotive, Inc. on Harvey Road in Ardentown in 1981. His vision was a small, family owned, personal, and trustworthy repair garage for cars and light duty trucks. Today we have a larger customer base than we ever imagined possible. At that old Harvey Road garage, we could fit exactly 27 cars in the parking lot, which also served as the driveway for Joe and Diane’s home. By the mid 90’s there weren’t many evenings where the driveway didn’t have all 27 spaces filled.
In the early 80’s there were few who attempt to repair Honda and Toyota vehicles, as they were fairly new. Joe and his crew became adept at these new vehicles and soon gained the reputation throughout Delaware as Honda experts… a reputation that still lives and earned today. The Harvey Road team know Hondas and Toyotas inside and out, although they are just as capable at repairing any makes and models.
In 1999 Harvey Road Automotive acquired a new facility at 1004 West 25th street, right down the street from Salesianum. This facility allows us to better serve our continually growing customer base. We are very thankful to have so many of our friends and neighbors in Wilmington trust us with their automotive needs.
Harvey Road has been awarded several awards through the years such as Consumers’ Checkbook “Best Auto Repair Shop in Delaware” three different years. In 2004, Delaware Today awarded Harvey Road 3rd place in “Best of Delaware“. For a small team, these are big accomplishments that wouldn’t be possible without our faithful customers giving us such great ratings. But all awards aside, the bottom line is: we are dedicated to excellence.
